Dakota Cohen’s Blind Audition
Dakota auditioned on the fifth night of the Blind Auditions, on October 5, with “Changes”, the piano ballad from heavy metal band Black Sabbath. NBC introduced her as a hard rocker. Adam Levine and Riley Green both pressed their buttons late in the song. Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah stayed turned away.
Queen Latifah still had praise for the tone, calling it “astounding, beautiful, raspy, raw, gritty.” With two coaches to choose from, Dakota went with Adam, who joked that winning an artist over Riley is always fun. Every audition from that night is listed in our full Voice Season 30 cast list with photos.
Dakota Cohen’s Battle Against Destinee Monroe
Adam saved two of his rock voices for the last Battle of the season, on Monday, October 26. Destinee Monroe, 32, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, had earned three chair turns with Mötley Crüe’s “Home Sweet Home”, so this was a pairing of two artists from the same lane. They sang Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life”, and Adam made it clear before the result that he did not know which way he would go.
He picked Dakota. Destinee did not go home, though: Queen Latifah, the only coach who still had a Steal, used it on her, and Destinee moves to Team Queen. That was the last Steal of the season. Every pairing from the round is in our Season 30 Battle results and Steals tracker, and the 20 artists who left in the Battles are on our running Voice eliminations list.
Who Is Dakota Cohen?
NBC’s official details are brief: Dakota is 25, comes from Los Angeles and sings hard rock. Both of her performances on the show so far, a Black Sabbath ballad and an Evanescence duet, came straight from rock rather than pop or country.
She is one of seven artists left on Team Adam, with Owen Uffens, Lexi Stephens, Amanda Mikkel, Connor Closs, Evan James and Brandon Diaz. Read about Adam Levine and the other three coaches in our Voice Season 30 coaches guide.
What Is Next for Dakota Cohen on The Voice?
Cut Week airs on Monday, November 2 as a two-hour episode at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Each coach sends two artists straight to the live shows, the other five on the team compete for one more place, and America votes one extra artist in to make a Top 13. Dakota reaches the live shows if Adam picks her directly, if she wins the five-artist fight on Team Adam, or if viewers vote her through. Our Cut Week rules explainer covers each step.
The live shows start on Monday, November 9, and the season ends with a two-hour finale on Monday, December 14. See every date in our guide to The Voice Season 30 finale date and live shows schedule.
