Kyle Davis is a 61-year-old singer-songwriter from Prince George, Virginia, and the oldest artist on record to turn all four chairs on The Voice. He did it on the third night of the Season 30 blind auditions, with an acoustic guitar and Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”, and he picked Kelly Clarkson as his coach.
If his audition left you wanting more, this is the short version of who he is: a working musician from the Richmond area who had a record deal once, stepped away to raise a family, and came back to the stage after a long break.

| Team | Team Kelly (Kelly Clarkson) |
Kelly Clarkson was the first to hit her button. Riley Green followed, then Adam Levine, and Queen Latifah was the last to turn. With every coach in front of him, Kyle had the kind of choice most artists only dream about.
The reactions were warm and specific. Kelly praised the way his voice carries a story, with grit and heartache in it, and said he was her favourite artist of the season so far. Adam called the performance one of the best he has seen on the show. Riley said Kyle was a reminder of what the show is supposed to celebrate, and Queen congratulated him on a moment that had been a long time coming.
The same night also produced another four-chair turn from Amanda Mikkel, who sang “Moon River” and ended up on Team Adam. You can find both artists, and everyone else who has joined a team, in our The Voice Season 30 contestants list with photos.
Kyle listened to all four pitches and went with Kelly. The reasoning was simple: she had turned first, which meant she believed in him before anyone else did. Kelly was visibly delighted by the decision.
It also puts him on a stacked team. Kelly now has Koumba Diallo, another four-chair turn, along with Brooklyn Marie, Hazel Gerson and several others.
Parade, Meaww and local Virginia coverage all describe the 61-year-old as the oldest artist to earn a four-chair turn on The Voice. The show does not keep an official public record book, so the claim comes from those outlets’ reading of its history. For context, Season 30 has had seven four-chair turns so far, and Kyle is the oldest of them by a wide margin.
This was not Kyle’s first run at a music career. According to Richmond music site The Auricular, he started performing in the early 1990s, released an album called Waiting For You in 1994 and was named one of the top unsigned artists of that year by Billboard. Parade and Meaww report that he later had a record deal with producer Phil Ramone in the early 2000s.
Then life took over. Kyle stepped back from music to raise his children and worked as a real estate agent. As his kids grew up and started singing themselves, the pull of music came back. The Auricular says he returned in 2019 with the single “Not Broken” and has released the albums Make It Count and Jericho since, while playing regular shows at Richmond venues.
He did not push himself forward. Kyle’s oldest daughter, Ande, sent his audition videos to the show without telling him first. He found out later, passed the show’s screening and made it to the blind auditions.
Season 30 has dropped the Knockout Rounds, so the next big test for Team Kelly is the Battles, which begin on Monday, October 12, followed by the new Cut Week. Each coach will send artists on to the live shows, so Kyle will have to keep winning over the room. Winning is a tall order, but the show has a long history of surprises. Here is how past seasons ended in our The Voice winners list for seasons 1 to 29.
