The film is set in 1993. Chun-Li recruits the rivals Ryu and Ken for a World Warrior tournament, and a deadly conspiracy forces them to face each other and their pasts. It is the third live-action feature based on the Capcom games, after the 1994 film and the 2009 Chun-Li movie.

The studio had been expecting a start in the mid-$30 millions, so the debut landed a little lighter. These are weekend estimates, and the final numbers can differ slightly.

Reviews are mixed. Rotten Tomatoes shows critics at about 40 percent positive, with different outlets reporting between 40 and 42 percent as the number moves. Audiences gave the film a B- CinemaScore. Reviewers praise the fight scenes and several supporting performances, and criticize the story and the tone.
Spoiler warning: this section reveals the ending.
In the climax Ryu fights Akuma. M. Bison escapes, taking the unconscious Akuma with him as his prisoner. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Dan, Guile and Dhalsim then set out after Bison, and the film ends on a cliffhanger.
There is a post-credits scene. It shows Sagat, the fighter Ryu beat in the opening, with Bison and his allies visiting him. It is animated and has no dialogue, and reviewers read it as a setup for a sequel in which Bison recruits Sagat. Stay in your seat after the credits if you want to see it.
A sequel has not been officially confirmed. The cliffhanger ending and the post-credits scene with Sagat set one up, and whether it happens will depend on how the film performs. We will update this section if Paramount or Legendary announces a follow-up.
Street Fighter is in theaters now, since October 16, 2026. Paramount has not announced a streaming or digital release date yet, and we will add it here as soon as it is confirmed.
