Why Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa Went Home

Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa danced a paso doble to “Satisfied” from Hamilton and scored 33 out of 40, a solid recovery from the 26 they got on Horror Movie Night, when guest judge Shirley Ballas gave Stiles a 4. Their team, Slaytopia, added 36, so they finished the night on 69 out of 80.

That was not the lowest total of the night. Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas finished on 68 after a jive to “You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!” from Peter Pan, and they stayed. With viewer votes added to the judges’ scores, Stiles and Sosa ended up at the bottom. Over eight weeks, the couple scored 238 judges’ points, more than Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold (236) and Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik (229), who both remain.

It is the second week in a row that fan voting has overturned the scoreboard. Last week, Jackson Olson went home after a 35, as we covered in our Horror Movie Night double elimination breakdown.

Team Dances: Wildcats Beat Slaytopia

Disney Night split the remaining eight couples into two teams, and each team’s score was added to every member’s total.

  • Team Wildcats (40/40): captain Connor Wood with Ezra Frech, Jenna Dewan and Harry Shum Jr., their pros and co-host Julianne Hough, dancing to “We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical.
  • Team Slaytopia (36/40): captain Tatyana Ali with Maura Higgins, Amber Glenn and Julia Stiles, their pros and co-host Alfonso Ribeiro, dancing to “Zoo” from Zootopia 2.

The four-point gap mattered. Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold had tied for the lowest individual score with 32, but the Wildcats’ 40 lifted them to 72 for the night, ahead of all four Slaytopia couples.

Who Won Immunity on DWTS Disney Night?

Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson won immunity for Week 9. Their jazz routine to “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from Mary Poppins earned four 10s, their second perfect score in a row after the Saw-inspired contemporary on Horror Movie Night. Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy also scored 40 for a quickstep to “Be Our Guest,” and by our count Harry and Jenna Johnson went into the team round with a one-point lead in season totals, 236 to 235.

Who Is Left on DWTS Season 35?

Seven couples move on to Grammy Night. Here is the leaderboard by total judges’ points after eight weeks, counting both Disney Night scores (320 points available).
