Bigg Boss 20 premiered on 6th September 2026, with Salman Khan returning to host India’s biggest reality show for another season of drama, strategy and surprises. Ten days in, the show has already delivered a nail-biting public-vote twist, a brand-new elimination format, and a contestant lineup that blends television favourites, digital creators, sports icons and reality-show veterans. Here’s a complete, up-to-date look at Bigg Boss 20 – the contestants, the host, the premiere details, and exactly how the game has unfolded in Week 1.
Bigg Boss 20 Premiere Date, Time and Where to Watch
Bigg Boss 20 kicked off with a grand premiere on 6th September 2026. As with recent seasons, the show streams online before it airs on television:
- OTT Release: JioHotstar, 9:00 PM IST
- TV Telecast: Colors TV, 10:30 PM IST
- Host: Salman Khan
- International Availability: For the first time, the show is also being made available to audiences in the UK, Canada and Singapore
The house itself has also been rebuilt from scratch this year, with a fresh layout and several new activity zones designed to keep the contestants – and the drama – moving.
The Vardan Twist: How Eliminations Work This Season
Every contestant entered the Bigg Boss 20 house with what the makers are calling “Vardan” – two lifelines built into the game from day one. Under this format, finishing at the bottom of the audience vote doesn’t send a contestant home immediately. Instead, they lose one lifeline and stay in the game. Only once both lifelines are used up does a contestant become eligible for elimination. It’s a format designed to keep the house full of familiar faces for longer, while still keeping the pressure of public voting very real.

Contestants to Watch This Season
Mary Kom
The six-time World Boxing Champion and Olympic medallist stepping into the Bigg Boss house is arguably the biggest surprise of the season. Mary Kom has spent her career fighting inside the ring, and fans are curious to see how that discipline translates to the very different battlefield of a reality TV house. Update: her run ended after seven weeks, when she lost her second lifeline and was evicted on October 24. Read how it happened in our article on Mary Kom’s eviction from Bigg Boss 20.
Kushal Tanwar (Gullu)
A familiar face to reality TV regulars, Gullu built his reputation on MTV Roadies and Splitsvilla, and reportedly carries a strong reality-show winning record into the house. His experience with competition formats makes him one of the contestants to watch early on.
ScoutOP (Tanmay Singh)
One of India’s most recognised esports personalities, ScoutOP brings a massive, extremely online fanbase into the mix – the kind of following that can move the needle heavily in a show built around public voting.
Faissal Khan
As Aamir Khan’s brother, Faissal Khan enters the house with a well-known Bollywood surname and his own acting career. His journey is expected to draw attention from both entertainment media and the wider Khan family fanbase.
Fans Ka Faisla: How Love Gill Entered the House Over Rhiya Ahir
Premiere night ended with the season’s first big twist. Instead of simply confirming every contestant, the makers put the final house entry to a public vote called Fans Ka Faisla, pitting Love Gill against Rhiya Ahir for the last spot in the house. Love Gill won the audience decision and walked in, becoming the first contestant of the season to earn her place entirely through viewer votes rather than a producer’s call sheet.
Bigg Boss 20 Week 1: Nominations, Captaincy and Lifelines
The game moved fast in its opening week. Yung Dsa was named the house’s first captain, a position that came with early influence over tasks and nominations. Following the first nomination round, four contestants landed in the danger zone: Love Gill, Arishfa Khan, Kanika Mann and Uditi Singh. Of that group, Kanika Mann became the first contestant to lose a Vardan lifeline, though she remains in the house under the new format.
Notably, reports around the first Weekend Ka Vaar suggest there may be no elimination at all in Week 1 – with the show’s actual first exit expected to land in Week 2, barring a surprise mid-week twist.
How to Watch Bigg Boss 20 Live

Voting for the week’s nominated contestants is also managed through the JioHotstar app, where eligible users can cast votes for their favourites to help them avoid losing a Vardan lifeline.
