What Is Below About?
Calvin Penney is a stubborn fisherman in Snook’s Arm, a small Newfoundland town that has been fighting to stay put. When an unidentified creature begins attacking the harbor, he teams up with a visiting marine scientist, Fonda Howander, to find out what it is and how to stop it. His son Wade is caught up in the danger, and the town is under pressure from the wealthy Crocker family, who have long pushed to resettle the community.
The series was created by Jesse McKeown, who is also the showrunner. It blends a monster story with a family drama about whether a dying fishing town can survive.

Below Ending Explained (Spoilers)
Spoilers ahead for the whole season, including the finale.
The creature turns out to be a mother, and the iceberg sitting in Snook’s Arm harbor is her nest, with her eggs inside. The danger to the town is also not only the monster. The Crockers want to mine the island’s resources, and clearing the residents out is how they plan to do it, so the relocation push and the evacuation both serve their plan.
When the military moves to evacuate the island and destroy the creature, Calvin’s family refuses to leave. They help tow the iceberg out of the harbor and into deeper water, and once it is gone the military stands down. The creature then releases her eggs and dies. Fonda explains that the eggs do not survive because the water is too warm.
Snook’s Arm survives, but the Crockers are not finished, and the fight over the town’s future is still going. The final scene shows Calvin and Wade at the helm of the boat. They spot ice on the horizon, the music shifts and the screen cuts to black. Creator Jesse McKeown has said the ending is not meant as a cliffhanger.
Will There Be a Below Season 2?
