The plot of the film revolves around a series of murders that happened in the Osage Nation, Oklahoma, when oil was discovered in the tribal lands. The Osage members, who were tribal people, had retained the mineral rights, but an extremely corrupt political person wanted to acquire the wealth of the tribals. Brutal crimes and murders were committed against the tribals during this time.

The movie has been directed and produced by Martin Scorsese who has also co-scripted the film along with Eric Roth. The movie has been dedicated to Robbie Robertson, who was the film’s composer but passed away a couple of months before its release. Scorsese has collaborated with both Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Di Niro for previous movies, and Killers of the Flower Moon makes it their sixth and tenth collaboration, respectively.

Killers of the Flower Moon was premiered at the 76^th Cannes Film Festival on 20th May, 2023 and was given a theatrical release by Apple TV on October 20, 2023, in the United States. It screened on IMAX also and was praised by the critics. However, the runtime did receive some criticism. It has been named one of the top 10 movies of 2023 by the American Film Institute, and the National Board of Review gave it the title of Best Film.
