ABC’s reality show “The Great Christmas Light Fight” has become an annual holiday tradition. The show is typically aired in a double-lane of two-hour episodes on Mondays during the first three weeks of December each year as part of ABC’s holiday programming schedule.

The Great Christmas Light Fight debuted on December 9, 2013. The show received a ninth-season renewal on December 10, 2020, and was released on November 28, 2021. The show received a tenth-season renewal on October 28, 2021.

The Format of The Great Christmas Light Fight

The families or organizations that make the elaborate Christmas light displays are showcased in each episode of The Great Christmas Light Fight. Producers require 24 light displays for each season, four light displays for each of the six episodes.

Producers select the contestants after paying them in advance. Three criteria are used to evaluate the presentations: overall design, use of lights, and holiday spirit. Prior to the judges reviewing the presentation and its specifics, each presentation is first individually delivered.

A winner is selected after all competitors have been evaluated, and the judge visits the winner to congratulate them. Each week’s episode winner receives a trophy with a theme-based holiday and a cash prize of $50,000.

How is The Great Christmas Light Fight Judged?

The judges of the show are lifestyle expert Carter Oosterhouse and interior designer Taniya Nayak. Both judges have been on the show since season three.

The show gets filmed over the course of six weeks, moving from light display to light display to capture interviews and images of the lights. Judges look for the design and lighting of the display. After visiting the four light displays of the episode, both judges and team members then go back to the winner’s home for the reveal. Tanya and Carter both have a really strong sense of design and construction.

Season 10 of the competition series will begin on Monday, November 28, and end on December 12, 2022. Additionally, the show is renewed for season 11, which will premiere in late 2023.
