Alan Rickman was born in London, England, to parents Margaret and Bernard Rickman on February 21, 1946. He was born with a tight jaw – but this only set him apart from others as people loved his deep tone voice. Before he could pursue acting, he, along with his friends, opened a graphic design studio known as Graphiti. He appeared in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) from 1972-1974 and worked with theatre groups.

Alan Rickman’s acting journey began with notable roles, including Jaques in the movie As You Like It and as Reverend Obadiah Slope in The Barchester Chronicles. He made his big-screen debut as the cunning villain Hans Gruber in Die Hard.
However, Rickman’s most iconic role was as the enigmatic Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, where his portrayal evolved from dark to heroic. His final onscreen performance was as Lieutenant General Frank Benson in “Eye in the Sky,” showcasing his versatility and talent in 2015.
Rickman has received several prestigious awards, including aBAFTA Award, Primetime Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
The renowned actor was suffering from prostate cancer for which he had undergone surgery too. The surgery coincided with the casting of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and yet, despite his condition, he decided to return and reprise his role.
In 2015, he suffered from a minor stroke, which revealed that he also had pancreatic cancer. He passed away at the age of 69 in London on January 14, 2016.
Alan Rickman will always be remembered with reverence and fondness as he rests in eternal peace always.
