Jordan Peele’s ‘Nope’ Review- The Director Delivered another Confident Work

Jordan Peele has delivered another confident work in the form of the movie ‘Nope’. The movie was released on July 22, 2022, which has been received well by the audience.

Nope is a science-fiction horror plot that offers interesting twists. Every new scene divulges an image of beauty or outlandish terror, sometimes both. There are some incredible suspense sequences in the movie. It brims with implications about animal rights, filmmaking, and our society’s profound appetite for fame.

Nope Movie Plot

Peele has craftily put these thoughts in the form of a story where Emerald Haywood, played by Keke Palmer, and OJ, played by Daniel Kaluuya. These two siblings have recently inherited their family business after they lost their father in a mysterious accident. Their father, Otis Haywood Sr., played by Keith David, owned the Haywood Hollywood horse ranch in Agua Dulce, where horses were trained and handled for television and movies. OJ wants to carry on his father’s legacy and keep the ranch running, while Emerald longs for fortune and fame in Hollywood.

Since the ranch isn’t doing well, OJ is forced to sell some horses to their neighbor, who runs a theme park. Things get out of hand when a UFO is sighted in Agua Dulce. It is then that the two brothers try to gather proof of aliens and make money by visiting an electronic store and purchasing several security cameras.

Peele cleverly takes time to unfold the story in the movie, spending ample time with Emerald and OJ. He later introduced other important supporting characters like Jupe, their neighbor, who has a troubled past as a child actor. Peele sends out a clear message to the audience, revealing the exploitation of all, including animals and actors, in the movie business.

Nope Movie Review

For some, Peele’s work may not be extraordinary because he may not be the first director to have made a horror movie that is not so chilling. Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema has worked alternatively between stunning Western landscapes and images of miserable terror that are unforgettable. However, things are not gruesome as the horror has been kept at a distance, allowing the audience to explore their imagination.

Although, the thoughtful message and methodical pacing of the movie were good, its climax is not as powerful as the ideas put together in the movie.
