Is Season 20 the Last for Whose Line Is It Anyway?

One of the lead performers of the show, Colin Mochrie, revealed through one of his tweets that Season 20 (Season 12 for CW) would be the last season of this show.

Mochrie’s tweet read,

“Hey everyone. Hope you are enjoying the current season of Whose Line. In January, we shoot our final season. Thank you all for the support over the years.”

Currently, Season 19 (season 11 for CW) of the revival is being aired on The CW Friday nights.

Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, and Wayne Brady are a part of the show, while Aisha Tyler is the host; she has been with the show since 2013.

Whose Line is it Anyway? – What Happens on the Show?

‘Whose Line is it Anyway’ is a comedy improv series featuring Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie, and a guest performer. The four individuals test their comedy skills through a series of spontaneous improv games. After every round, Aisha gives points to the performers and declares a winner at the end of the episode. Some guests in the current Season 19 (season 11 for CW) include Padma Lakshmi, Jonathan Magnum, Gary Anthony Williams, and Darren Criss.

Whose Line is it Anyway? Rating

The show has received an average rating of 0.07 – a survey conducted amongst 540,000 viewers between the ages of 18 and 49. The rating is down by 8% in viewership in live + same day viewing day, compared to the previous season 18. However, in the live + 7-day ratings, the show picks up about 30% in delayed viewing.

The show first premiered on ABC for six seasons and was canceled in 2004. ABC Family (Freeform now) revived the show for two seasons (2005 to 2007), and then CW revived it in 2013 and has kept it running since then.

In August this year, Nexstar Media Group acquired a 75% majority stake at Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery. The company is now focusing on inexpensive acquired programming. Considering the fact that ‘Whose Line is it Anyway’ is a production of Warner Bros. Discovery subsidiary and that the show doesn’t receive enough ratings, Nexstar probably wanted to discontinue and try their hands at something new.

Mochrie also revealed that the veterans of the show would continue to perform in different ways. Considering that the show has a popular format and has already been revived twice, you never know if it may be revived once again in the future.
