Is Dunki to be Submitted for Oscars Nominations?

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani starring the much-talented superstar Shahrukh Khan, the movie Dunki was received quite well by the audience. Dunki was released on December 21, 2023, and emerged as the 6^th highest-grossing Hindi movie of the year. 

Is Dunki Nominated for Oscars?

It is anticipated that the movie will be sent for Oscar nominations this year. However, there has been no official confirmation of this news. Makers and relevant authorities are yet to confirm this news. Back in 2004 and 2005, Shahrukh Khan’s movies Swades and Paheli, respectively, were submitted for this prestigious award. 

Cast and Makers of the Movie

Dunki is a comedy drama movie which is about illegal immigration, and besides Shahrukh Khan, it also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, and Vikram Kocchar in the lead roles. 

The movie has been directed and edited by Rajkumar Hirani. The production companies are Red Chillies Entertainment, Jio Studios and Rajkumar Hirani Films. 

Plot of the Movie

The movie is about three friends, Manu, Buggu, and Balli, who live in Laltu, Punjab. They are both uneducated and poor but look forward to immigrating to London for a good life. Their dreams seem to come true when Hardy (played by Shahrukh Khan) comes to their village. Although Hardy’s purpose to visit the village was entirely different, he agrees to help the three to get to London. Balli is the only one who gets through the IELTS exam and makes it to London. 

He shares pictures of himself living a grand life in London, which motivates Manu and Buggu even more to move to London. Hardy helps Manu and Buggu get to London through the Dunki route, where they find Balli working as a living statue and living in extremely poor conditions. They are advised by a lawyer that Manu should enter into a marriage contract to legalize their stay.

Things do not go as planned because of which Hardy leaves for India but the rest of them use the right of asylum to stay and settle in England. 25 years later, Manu travels back to Hardy in India, where she dies in his arms as she was suffering from brain tumour.
