In the heart of the Indian Air Force, Siddharth Anand’s “Fighter” takes flight, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. Despite initial turbulence in the storytelling, the film manages to achieve aerial excellence with sky-high action and a grounded plot.
“Fighter” revolves around the formation of Air Dragons, a group of elite IAF aviators, portrayed by Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Karan Singh Grover, and Akshay Oberoi. United in the face of impending peril, the film explores their bond, fraternity, and internal struggles.
Despite the trailer hinting at a jingoistic pro-max tone, “Fighter” surprises audiences with moments of calmness amidst the storm. The film begins with a slight struggle to take off, both in terms of fighter planes and the storyline, but gains momentum as it progresses.

The film’s aerial sequences, depicting the pursuit of terrorists through the clouds, steal the spotlight. The portrayal of aerial maneuvers and the intensity of combat keep viewers on the edge of their seats, showcasing the movie’s true strength.
While Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s on-screen chemistry provides a quick distraction, it never overshadows the film’s primary mission. Director Siddharth Anand maintains focus on the overarching narrative, ensuring the love story complements rather than detracts from the plot.

Anil Kapoor delivers a powerful performance as the angry commanding officer, balancing personal trauma with national duty. Hrithik Roshan’s charisma shines through, reminiscent of his earlier roles, and Deepika Padukone leaves an impressive mark, especially in emotionally charged scenes.
“Fighter” doesn’t break new ground in terms of storyline, remaining clichéd and predictable. The first half foreshadows events in the second half, and the villain’s impact falls short due to a lack of a compelling backstory.

The film, while promoting itself as a nationalistic venture, occasionally leans toward jingoism. Dialogues about India occupying Pakistan and similar rhetoric contribute to uneasiness, straying unexpectedly from Siddharth Anand’s usual style.
Despite a slow start and a formulaic plot, “Fighter” manages to captivate audiences with its breathtaking aerial combat sequences. While the film flirts with jingoism, its emotional depth and patriotic undertones shine through, making it a compelling watch despite its shortcomings.
“Fighter” may follow a familiar trajectory, but its visual spectacle and outstanding action sequences keep viewers engaged. A cinematic journey that, despite its predictable elements, manages to take flight and deliver a thrilling experience.
